Pet Insurance

Pet insurance works best when you enroll before your pet develops any health problems. Most pet insurance plans do not cover pre-existing conditions, so purchasing coverage after your dog or cat has already been diagnosed with an illness or injury usually won't help pay for treatment related to that condition. However, if your pet has an active pet insurance policy before a new condition develops, it can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs for eligible accidents, illnesses, diagnostics, medications, surgeries, and other veterinary care.

Some pet insurance providers also offer direct pay or pay-ahead options for covered conditions, allowing the insurance company to pay participating veterinary hospitals directly instead of reimbursing you afterward. These programs are typically only available for conditions that are eligible for coverage and are not considered pre-existing under your pet's policy.
